Sample consumer SMS opt-in
How opt-in happens on the BenchNote platform — end to end.
1. Program summary a consumer sees
BenchNote is a US-based transactional messaging platform used by independent custom-build shops ("participating shops") to send order-status updates to their own customers. Every SMS is sent by the specific shop the consumer placed an order with, from that shop's own dedicated 10-digit US phone number. BenchNote is the software layer; the shop is the sender.
The consumer is told they will receive, from that specific shop only:
- A weekly status update on any active order (typically Monday morning)
- An update when their order moves to a new stage of work
- Brief replies to status questions the consumer texts back
No marketing, no promotions, no third-party offers. Frequency: typically 1–4 messages per month per active order.
2. Verbatim disclosure staff reads to the consumer
"We can text you updates about your order from our shop's phone number — a weekly check-in and a message any time your order moves to a new stage of work. Is that OK?"
"You can reply STOP any time to opt out. Message and data rates may apply. It's totally optional — we can also just use email or call if you'd rather."
The same disclosure is used in person at the counter and over the phone at order intake.
3. Production intake form (screenshot)

The SMS-opt-in disclosure sits directly above the consent checkbox so staff sees the exact wording every time; the box is unchecked by default and consent is never a condition of service.

Consent is recorded with a timestamp, the shop staff who captured it, and the disclosure version. Consumers who decline the checkbox still receive service — BenchNote is opt-in and never a condition of purchase.

7. What consumers never receive
- No marketing broadcasts or promotional messages
- No third-party offers or affiliate content
- No messages from BenchNote directly to a shop's customers
- No cross-shop messaging (each shop's opt-in is scoped only to that shop)
